Del Mar, California
Del Mar is a city that describes itself as a “Coastal Beauty” with “European Charm,” and, we must admit, whomever came up with that slogan, nailed it. Located about 20 miles north of downtown San Diego, Del Mar is magical.
Del Mar Amenities
When you buy a home in Del Mar, the first thing you’ll notice is that there is so much to do. Where to start?
At the beach, of course. The city is home to several sandy spots to park yourself, surf, play with the dog and more. We recommend that pet owners head straight to North Beach, or as locals refer to it, “dog beach.” Located off Camino Del Mar, across from the race track, your pooch can run free, get wet and socialize with other dogs and their humans.
Other popular beach areas include Del Mar City Beach and its two coastal parks, Seagrove and Powerhouse. The latter includes a tot lot.
“The turf meets the surf” at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, with live thoroughbred racing all summer long and satellite wagering all year.
Walkers, hikers and joggers enjoy Del Mar’s various trails along the bluffs and in Crest Canyon and Torrey Pines State Park. Not only will you get your fitness taken care of, but do so with an incredibly gorgeous backdrop, accompanied by wildlife.
Living in Del Mar means not having to travel far for shopping, dining and entertainment. Del Mar Plaza (shopping with a view!) and Flower Hill Promenade (lovely restaurants) cater to even the most discriminating shoppers.
Finally, Del Mar is a city that loves to throw parties and offers up several highly-anticipated annual events:
Schools in Del Mar
Public school students in Del Mar attend schools administered by the Del Mar Union School District (eight schools for students in grades K through 6) and the San Dieguito Union High School District.
The latter includes Carmel Valley Middle School, Torrey Pines High School and Canyon Crest Academy.
Private schools in the area include Winston School and Sea Change Preparatory.
Del Mar Real Estate
Del Mar homes include condos, townhomes and single-family homes. Condos are, naturally, among the least expensive homes for sale in Del Mar so the inventory is typically quite small. You’ll find these homes typically priced from the mid-$500,000s to the multi-millions.
Single-family homes for sale in Del Mar are generally priced from $1.2 million to nearly $20 million. The more expensive homes are beachfront or set high enough above the city to offer spectacular views.
