Your first experience with the Hotel del Coronado may have been with Marilyn Monroe in Some Like It Hot, but if you want to blend exclusivity with effortless living in Southern California, it shouldn’t be your last.
While “Coronado Island” may owe its popularity to the resort hotel, that’s hardly what life on this peninsula is like. Some of California’s best schools can be found here, alongside unique shopping experiences, a smorgasbord of fine dining, and, of course, yacht clubs. You’ll also find San Diego’s premier public golf course, arguably the best views of the city, and a flourishing art scene.
And with all of this, Coronado maintains its healthy (there’s no smoking allowed in any public areas), slow-paced (the speed limit is a mere 25 MPH) charm.

Coronado Village
When you think of Coronado, the Village is the place that comes to mind. This community offers the largest residential area on the peninsula, along with the shops, restaurants, public buildings, and Coronado High School.
Homes range in size and architecture, but residents have one thing in common, the ability to stroll through delightful streets and enjoy the pace of island life. And, of course, the Hotel del Coronado and Ferry Landing Marketplace are always in reach. The city, with its twinkling lights, will feel miles away.
Coronado Cays
When life revolves around a day at sea, the best place to park your boat is at home. In the Cays, you won’t find a city-like grid of streets; space between the houses is filled with waterways and channels so you can steer your yacht in and out of your home dock easily.
Many of the homes were built in the 1970s and 1980s, and almost all of them cater to a lifestyle centered on entertaining. If you do feel like a walk, Silver Strand State Beach is quickly accessible. And, if mainland shopping calls, you can cruise up the Silver Strand and over the bridge, or cut down through Imperial Beach and head East through Chula Vista instead.
Coronado Shores
In between Coronado Village and Coronado Shores, you’ll find an exclusive condominium community. Ten buildings spread over 32 acres offer waterfront homes for anyone that wants a beach lifestyle without the hassle of estate maintenance. Condos range from single studios to four-bedrooms, each behind the security of this grand, gated community. Residents can access the tennis courts, pools, club house, spa, fitness center, and the bar located inside this community.
Views from the homes in Coronado Shores, especially those on higher levels, are perhaps the most gorgeous in the world. With the San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean on either side, you can see everything from Mexico to the Hotel del Coronado shining in front of the San Diego skyline.
